What is the point of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
The player controls Link as he searches for Princess Zelda and fights to prevent the Demon King from destroying the world. Tears of the Kingdom was conceived after ideas for Breath of the Wild downloadable content (DLC) had exceeded its scope.
Tears of the Kingdom takes place after the events of Breath of the Wild, in which Link successfully defeats Calamity Ganon. It's not exactly clear how long after that battle we pick up from, but it seems that a few years have passed. In any case, the story begins with Link and Zelda exploring the depths of Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom doesn't mark the end of the entire franchise, as the Zelda series has a history of showing Link's triumphs, failures, and timeline splits. Tears of the Kingdom didn't create a time loop or bring the timeline back to Skyward Sword, contrary to speculation.
Tears of the Kingdom is a fantastic game, full of new features, and the in-world experiences are satisfying. The gameplay surpasses the experience you may have playing Breath of the Wild. You can spend countless hours building stuff to help you explore or solve puzzles. The possibilities are infinite.
Tour Central Hyrule, Then Head Northwest
Progressing northwest will pass several Stables, all of which contribute to various Side Adventures. This path eventually culminates in Rito Village, followed by the recommended first dungeon. After all that, players should be ready to explore the rest of Tears of the Kingdom.

In an interview with TheGamer, Zelda's voice actor, Patricia Summersett, revealed that she believes Zelda and Link are in a relationship. "I know that [Link and Zelda] are in a relationship with each other, it's active, there's a lot of care and a lot of listening, and I just love that about it,” Summersett said.
In Tears of the Kingdom, it's revealed that Zelda spent many years as a dragon after the events of the Imprisoning War, which means the Light Dragon must have been present during the events of Breath of the Wild despite not appearing in the game.
So Link is about 123 - 127 years old in Tears of the Kingdom. Aragorn is 87 years old during the events of The Lord of the Rings, so youthful, but aged swordsmen abound in fantasy.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is no different. This time, the final fight comes at the culmination of the “Destroy Ganondorf” quest. However, fighting Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom is uniquely difficult thanks to the new gloom mechanic, which messes with your max health and ability to heal.
Does Tears of the Kingdom break the timeline?
Tears of the Kingdom is a Reset, Not a Continuation
Instead, a lot of the evidence appears to suggest that this new version of Ganondorf appearing at the founding of Hyrule and Zelda traveling back in time might have made a completely new split in the timeline.
Notably, the Triforce does not appear when Zelda uses magic in Tears of the Kingdom. However, this does not mean that the artifact is not still within her. For example, the fact that she now uses her Secret Stone as a magical focus may have prevented it from manifesting.
No plans for DLC for Tears of the Kingdom mean that a threequel in the Zelda series is unlikely, as the story has effectively been resolved.
In an emailed response, Aonuma wrote that in Tears of the Kingdom, "we were able to implement all of the elements that we wanted to achieve in this world and this story, so there will not be any DLC. Please continue to enjoy the vast world of Hyrule."
Based on all of this information, Tears of the Kingdom is clearly bigger. There are two additional layers of Hyrule to explore, with the Depths being the size of the full surface map. With more nooks and crannies to explore on the surface, the game is over twice as large as Breath of the Wild in terms of content.
Outside of shrines and dungeons, which have predetermined solutions to their puzzles, there are always multiple ways to do anything in Tears of the Kingdom. If you don't much like building things, you often don't have to. You can get around on a horse, or on foot, and via climbing.
In reality, players don't need to play Breath of the Wild to enjoy Tears of the Kingdom. While there are obviously plenty of spoilers for the events of BOTW, the narrative of TOTK isn't hard to follow, especially with a recap of BOTW's story.
This is also the general consensus online, with many on Reddit agreeing that Tears of the Kingdom seems to take place roughly five to six years after the events of Breath of the Wild. "If I had to guess probably like six or seven years based on the apparent age of Hudson's daughter," one user suggested.
You Should Sell Gems In Tears Of The Kingdom
In reality though, it's still far better to sell gems in Tears of the Kingdom than it is to Fuse them.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an enormous sequel that builds on Breath of the Wild's sturdy foundation. I mean that quite literally, as the adventure takes place on the same Hyrule map as its predecessor.
Should I finish Breath of the Wild before starting Tears of the Kingdom?
The basic controls are the same in the sequel, too, so BOTW veterans will naturally hit the ground running quicker in TOTK. So, no, you don't have to play Breath of the Wild before Tears of the Kingdom. However, if you're a video game fan, Breath of the Wild is a brilliant one and you probably should play it sometime.
They are never depicted marrying. Further still no Zelda is ever explicitly mentioned to be related to any Link as their mother or anything else. If they were to get Married Link would at the very least become a prince and thereby all his future descendants would be royalty.
In actuality, they almost never end up together or strike up a romantic relationship. Most of the time, Link and Zelda maintain a strictly platonic relationship, with even a few instances of them simply having a professional one. The few times Link and Zelda actually wind up together are exceptions to the rule.
With so much at stake, and so many eyes upon him, he feels it necessary to stay strong and to silently bear any burden. A feeling I know all too well... For him, it has caused him to stop outwardly expressing his thoughts and feelings.
Zelda is the elf-like Hylian princess of the kingdom of Hyrule, an associate of the series protagonist Link, and bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda's role has often been that of a damsel in distress or donor who assists Link.
