In a bold move, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has demanded a thorough investigation into the eight-year tenure of ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai. This call comes with serious allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of power, and a period of immense hardship for the people of Kaduna.
But here's where it gets controversial... Sani, in a press conference, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take action on the reported indictment of El-Rufai by the Kaduna State House of Assembly. He emphasized the need to hold everyone accountable, stating, "No one should be above the law."
Sani painted a grim picture of El-Rufai's leadership, describing it as an era of demolitions, rising insecurity, and policies that caused immense suffering for the citizens. He further questioned El-Rufai's democratic credentials, alleging the arrest and detention of journalists, activists, and community leaders during his administration.
"Between 2015 and 2023, our state faced unprecedented challenges. It's time to seek answers and ensure justice," Sani emphasized.
One of the key points raised by Sani was the disappearance of political activist Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata, in 2019. He urged security agencies to intensify their efforts to unravel this mystery, stating that unresolved cases like these undermine justice and accountability.
The senator's remarks were a direct response to El-Rufai's recent criticism of the current administration during an interview on Arise TV. Sani pointed out the contradiction in El-Rufai's actions, as he had actively campaigned for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections. "Political inconsistency" is how Sani described this behavior.
Sani also claimed that El-Rufai's political relevance had faded before his term ended, citing the ruling party's performance in Kaduna during the last general elections. He praised the current Governor Uba Sani for improvements in security and urged residents to support peace initiatives.
In a show of support for Tinubu and Sani ahead of 2027, Sani emphasized that Nigerians should have the right to choose leaders based on their competence, integrity, and commitment to national unity.
However, ex-Governor El-Rufai has consistently denied any wrongdoing, stating that his administration focused on reforms to enhance governance and fiscal discipline in Kaduna State.
