First Look: Come From Away Musical at Paper Mill Playhouse - Exclusive Photos & Behind-the-Scenes (2026)

Imagine a world brought to a standstill, only to be rebuilt by the kindness of strangers. This is the powerful essence of "Come From Away," a Tony Award-winning musical that's landing at the Paper Mill Playhouse, and we've got your exclusive first look!

This isn't just another staged musical; it's a deeply moving, real-life story that unfolds with an intimate touch. The production kicks off its performances on Wednesday, February 4th, with the grand opening night set for Sunday, February 8th. You'll have until Sunday, March 1st to experience this incredible show at the Paper Mill Playhouse, located at 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn, NJ.

What makes this production particularly special? Director and choreographer Richard J. Hinds has brought a unique vision to life, where the actors themselves are playing instruments live on stage. This creates an incredibly organic and engaging performance, truly immersing the audience in the narrative. And this is the part most people miss: the raw talent and connection forged between the performers as they bring this story to life is palpable.

The stellar cast bringing this heartwarming tale to you includes Jeannette Bayardelle as Beverley/Annette, Andréa Burns as Diane, John El-Jor as Kevin J./Ali, Nick Gaswirth as Oz, Lisa Howard as Beulah, Lisa Helmi Johanson as Janice, Kent M. Lewis as Nick/Doug, James Moye as Claude, Jason Tyler Smith as Bob, David Socolar as Kevin T./Garth, Erica Spyres as Bonnie, and Rema Webb as Hannah. Understudies Molly Coyne, Travis Darghali, Brandi Knox, and Matthew Whennell-Clark are also ready to step in and shine.

For those unfamiliar with the story, "Come From Away" is based on an extraordinary true event. On September 11, 2001, the world was shaken. But on September 12th, in a small town in Newfoundland, Canada, something remarkable happened. A community of just 7,000 people opened their hearts and homes to 7,000 stranded airline passengers when their planes were unexpectedly diverted. This musical beautifully chronicles how fear was transformed into friendship, and how complete strangers became like family. It's a testament to human resilience, compassion, and the power of community, all wrapped up in a score that's as spirited as it is touching, with book, music, and lyrics by the brilliant Irene Sankoff and David Hein.

The creative team behind this captivating production includes Sam Groisser for Music Direction, Nate Bertone for Scenic Design, Michelle J. Li for Costume Design, Paige Seber for Lighting Design, Emilia Martin for Hair, Wig, and Makeup Design, and Kevin Heard for Sound Design. Patricia L. Grabb is the Production Stage Manager, and ARC handled the casting.

But here's where it gets even more engaging: Paper Mill Playhouse is hosting a series of special discussions that delve deeper into the production and its real-life inspiration. On Saturday, February 7th (after the 1:30 PM performance), you can join Producing Artistic Director Mark S. Hoebee for a Q&A with the very individuals whose stories inspired the characters. Then, on Saturday, February 21st (after the 1:30 PM performance), you'll have a chance to chat with the cast. And for students, there's a special cast Q&A on Wednesday, February 25th, following a student matinee.

This production is made possible by the generous support of Arline and Jim Cox as Marquee Sponsors, and The GenWealth Group as the Opening Night Sponsor for the 2025–2026 season.
